With a hosted SAN solution, a third party installs and configures all hardware and software, and monitors and maintains storage availability and capacity. This model makes sense if other IT operations also are being hosted because:

• Hosting for backup, data protection and archiving can be leveraged without the costs of establishing another site for networked storage.
• It allows companies to shift the part of their operations that are outside their core competencies to a services provider.
