Google Apps Rival Takes Its Turn at Security - Praise from Early Adopters

To ensure secure information exchange between Central Desktop users and external parties, the pack offers single sign-on redirect features to allow companies and organizations to create a single sign-on experience for third-party applications, so that users don't have to log-in twice when clicking from Central Desktop to another application.

Forrester Research analyst Erica Driver said that both Google and Central Desktop are taking steps to break down one of the most common objections to using SAAS. Google bought Postini last year for $625 million and is partnering with third-party providers such as Arcot Systems for two-factor authentication on Google Apps.

With Security Pack, Garcia said Central Desktop is the rare SAAS collaboration provider to target SMBs and workgroups with enhanced security.

Central Desktop is already getting praise from early adopters. Ken Sully, CEO for iSold It, said he has over 10GB of information shared by over 200 users in 125 stores accessing the Central Desktop platform. Sully said Google Apps and other collaboration solutions he evaluated "just were not industrial-strength enough."

"With the single-login and sign-on features in this release, I've been able to integrate even more functionality into my workspaces without forcing users to log in to a different system," Sully said of the Security Pack.

Central Desktop, which provides its software services to more than 100,000 users worldwide, is selling the Security Pack as an optional add-on for $99 per month for companies of 25 ($99), 50 ($175), 100 ($249) or more users.

The pack is required for companies that want to integrate a single sign-on experience between Central Desktop and a third-party application.
